USA: Post Study Work VISA

The United States offers a post-study work visa program for international students who have graduated from a U.S. educational institution. This program, known as Optional Practical Training (OPT), allows students to gain work experience in their field of study for a period of up to 12 months (or 29 months for STEM students).

To be eligible for OPT, students must have completed a degree program from an accredited U.S. educational institution, and they must have been enrolled in the program on a full-time basis. Additionally, students must have maintained their F-1 student visa status throughout their studies.

One of the benefits of the OPT program is that it allows students to gain valuable work experience in their field of study, which can be beneficial for their future careers. Additionally, the program can provide students with the opportunity to network and make professional connections in the U.S.

To apply for OPT, students must first complete an I-765 form and submit it, along with required documents and fees, to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The application process can take several months, so it's important to plan ahead and apply well in advance of the desired start date.

It's also worth noting that the OPT program is only valid for 12 months and it's not a path to citizenship or a permanent residency in the US. However, there are other options for international students who want to work in the US long-term, such as H-1B visa, EB-5 visa, or even a Green card through employer sponsorship.

Overall, the OPT program is a valuable opportunity for international students who have graduated from a U.S. educational institution to gain work experience in their field of study. However, it's important to plan ahead and understand the application process and eligibility requirements, as well as other potential opportunities for long-term work in the US.
